Last weekend was probably one of the best weekends possible. Starting with the Redneck Fest on Friday at the Linwood in Boston. What can I say, good food, cheap beer and more kick ass rock than you could shake a stick at. Quintaine Americana emerged from their hibernation and pulverized everyone with an awe inspiring set. Rock City Crimewave played the hits and songs from their new CD. Allston legends Random Road Mother reformed for the night and brought everyone back in time with a classic set of their drunk punk. Bill from www.justbill.net documented the night with photos, do yourself a favor and go check them out.

Saturday was Day 2 of the Maine Stoner / Doom Festival. We were pretty hung over but made the 2 hour trip north to the Asylum in Portland. After eating some food and having a little hair of the dog, the music began. Ol’ Scratch from Virginia were on first and delivered a smokin’ set. Their frontman is a character on and off stage, at one point before their set he was running around in his underwear with show posters taped to his chest and back. Funny shit. Next band up was Sea Of Bones and let me tell ya, they were loud. Doom as fuck. Our brothers from Boston, We’re All Gonna Die came on next and changed things up a bit, injecting a little more groove and melody into the proceedings. Great as usual. Ethan did a remarkable job filling in on bass. New Jersey’s A Thousand Knives Of Fire were next. Blistering dual guitar leads were the order of the day. These guys really kicked it up a notch. We are psyched to be splitting a record with these boys. Hovel from West Virgina were the next band on. This instrumental three piece lays down solid, heavy, groove after groove. They really made an impression.
We had an absolute blast playing and people really seemed to like it, so that made our day. There’s nothing quite like giving your all on stage and having the crowd react in a positive way.

The last two bands were Portland heavyweights Ocean and Conifer. Since this was the Maine Stoner and Doom Fest it was appropriate that two bands from Maine closed out the evening. Ocean did their usual set consisting of one song. Their music is brutal and crushing but with enough space that it never gets monotonous. The name Ocean is perfect because it feels like you are being hit by wave after wave of sound. They added a female vocalist for part of the set which was kind of different but cool. Conifer was the final band. They set up in a circle with the drummer’s back facing the crowd. Interesting heavy songs with tons of dynamics. It was my first time seeing them and I thought they were really cool.
